The mission of the Surry County Association of Rescue Squads (SCARS) is to strengthen and sustain our volunteer rescue community by connecting squads, advocating for equitable resources, and promoting high standards of training and readiness across the county. We exist to support the people who show up first—volunteers—by sharing best practices, coordinating joint training, advising on equipment and funding, and representing squad needs to local government and the public. SCARS champions a community-first approach to emergency response: improving outcomes through cooperation, building local resilience, and ensuring every resident can count on a skilled, well-equipped squad when minutes matter.
